Utilization of the land reclamation disposal sites
[Yume no shima]
The Yume no shima ( Dream Island) is reclaimed land which has been filled with a colossal 10 million tons of kitchen garbage, and is also known as the Waste Island.

Today however, it would be difficult to imagine that this is an island made from waste. Baseball fields, a tropical plant museum and mariner construction have transformed this island into a Yumenoshima ( Dream Island) filled with greenery. A top this artificial island stands the Yumenoshima Park, offering the latest facilities.

This land was reclaimed by filling the sea with about 18 million tons of soft waste including paper, textiles and vegetable waste. Because it has been reclaimed with waste, large volumes of methane gas and sludge are generated. The gas is dissipated through gas pipes and sludge treatment facilities are used to preserve the environment.
This is the outdoor recreation zone which has a golf course, a camping area, cycling roads and a multi purpose field. The total area is 109 hectares of land and sea combined. It provides a park where people can feel close to the sea and enjoy nature.
This is the world's first golf course built on reclaimed land and was designed and supervised by the professional golfer, Ayako Okamoto, who received the honorary citizen's award from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. When waste decomposes gas is generated. Using 100 gas extraction pipes, the gas is dispersed in a controlled manner.
